Establishing a good brushing routine for your dog

At Cheeky Pups we promote and encourage a good brushing routine for your dog.
Good brushing can:

  • Conditions coat by distributing oils from skin to fur
  • Encourage coat growth
  • Helps to lesson chances of getting tangles which can turn into matting of the fur
  • Gets rid of debris and dirt
  • Let’s you, as the owner check the dog’s skin for any problems
  • Allows the dog to get used to brushing which can prepare them for the grooming process

Dog regardless of how long the coat is, should be brushed regularly.
The frequency of the brushing will be based on what type of coat your dog has.
Short coated dogs can be brushed once a week to 2 weeks.
Long wooly coated dogs needs to be brushed every 1-2 days.
Long fine coat needs to be brushed every 2-3 days.
During shedding season, double coated dog should be brushed every day to get rid of the dead loose
fur.
